Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
