Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side only half a year after instigating insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road concluded through agreement in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
