Supporters Urge Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a person who leaped a barrier and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the Australian man shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account contains videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, securing two for best costume and artistic direction.
