The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
