The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
